Dear PhD students,
We represent all PhD students in the social science doctoral curriculum who are affiliated with the following faculties and departments:
Faculty of Social Sciences: all departments
Faculty of Earth Sciences, Geography and Astronomy → Department of Geography and Regional Research: PhD students in Human Geography
Faculty of Life Sciences → Department of Behavioral and Cognitive Biology: PhD students in Psychology, focus Social Sciences
Faculty of Business, Economics and Statistics: selected PhD programs in the areas of Economics (Statistics and Operations Research), Computational Optimization, Economics, Business Analytics, Logistics and Operations Research, Finance, and Management

Monthly meetings
We hold monthly meetings in order to organise our activities. We welcome everybody who wants to participate in our work!
Usually the meetings take place on the first Wednesday of each month at 15:00.

Co-writing sessions
In the past we have hosted a regular writing space for PhD students who feel like being in a group setting could help them get into a writing mood.
However, due to personal reasons and low demand we had to pause the writing sessions. If you are interested in helping organise them in the future, contact us via e-mail and join our WhatsApp group!

Funding of conference participation and research activities
We use part of our budget to financially support doctoral students in the social science doctoral curriculum who wish to attend scientific conferences or have trouble financing research-related activities. We especially want to support those who are not employed at the university and therefore do not have access to funding out of the university budget, nor access to budgets of third-party funded projects.

Who we are and what we do
We represent the PhD students in the social sciences doctoral curriculum as part of the Austrian National Union of Students (ÖH) and are elected in the ÖH elections. All social sciences PhD students are invited to join our meetings, bring ideas, influence decisions and develop activities. We prefer consensual decision-making, i.e. decisions are agreed upon and supported by all activists.

Networking room at Kolingasse for ViDSS students
There is a networking room available where PhD students can hang out and meet fellow PhDs. It can also be booked for meetings, workshops and other initiatives (max. capacity: 27 people). Please note that this is unfortunately only for members of the ViDSS (Vienna Doctoral School of Social Sciences).

University-committee rep work
Part of our rep work are various university committees. In those, we are members besides the professors and other uni employees, and we try to contribute and emphasize the students' views.
